why is stained concrete flaking?
Question by Decide: why is stained concrete flaking?
Last year we acid stained our concrete slab patio. We later sealed it. As the snow melted this Spring, I see that some of the color is flaking off, or maybe peeling off is more accurate. How is this possible, isn’t the concrete supposed to be permanently “stained”? It’s definitely the stain/color flaking off, not the concrete underneath. Any thoughts?

you did not get a good adhesion between the stain & the concrete. Have been doing concrete work for over 30 years and the usual problem is lack of prep work on the existing concrete. Cleaning with muratic acid is usually what has to be done to get the stain to adhere correctly
